The children are in bed so I have officially survived my first day on my own. I have had quite a few people ask me how I am doing so far and I’m not sure how to answer. Don’t get me wrong, I love my husband and I miss him, I just haven’t had time to focus on his absence. Having two small children is very time consuming.
I think my biggest struggle today was bedtime. My kids and I went to a friend’s for the afternoon/evening. I was hoping they would both fall asleep on the 25 minute drive home but only N did. R stayed awake the entire drive. Once we were home and N was tucked into his crib, R wanted stories, snacks, snuggles, and music. We read one story while snuggling on the couch then she got to listen to a few songs while she fell asleep. My husband had been the one putting her to bed for the last 2 weeks while he was home. While she won’t admit it yet, I know she misses her father.
N misses his daddy too. When we got to speak to him on the phone this evening, N kept grabbing the phone, saying ‘dada’ and pointing at the caller ID photo with a huge smile.
68 more days until C is done basic training. Until then, I am holding down the fort while attempting to maintain some sanity.
